Best Double Strollers for Big Kids
If you’re shopping for a double strollers for big kids, you may be overwhelmed with all the options! As a mom who has been in that same boat, I’m sharing my top picks for the best double strollers for big kids to help you make an easy decision without all the hassle!
I know I’m not the only tired mom out there with multiple kids of stroller-toting age. So, what do you do when your kids are growing beyond belief and about to outgrow yet another stroller?
Think: double stroller!
This way, you already have a solution as your littlest ages up in need, AND hopefully your back gets a double break with that double stroller! We’re always looking for more space to keep our kids comfortable and our hands free. Happy kids = happy parents!
Can big kids ride in a double stroller?
When we think about newborns and strollers, we often think, “obviously!” Is it really necessary to consider a stroller when you have older kids? The answer is – YES! You might need a stroller for a bigger kid for many reasons:
- Activities where you’re on your feet for a long time (zoos, aquariums)
- Attempting to exercise with little ones
- Tired feet at theme parks (Disney World anyone?)
- A medical condition that impacts your child’s ability to walk long distances
Double strollers can be a good option for everyday use because they let you push two kids at once, often have a higher weight limit, and often have more storage space. The biggest downside is they’re larger than a standard stroller, so they can be a little more difficult to maneuver, especially when strolling through doorways or in crowded spaces.
There are a ton of options out there, so make sure you look for features that meet your family’s needs. Are you a parent of twins? Do you have two young children or two older children? Kids of different ages?
Here are some ideas to consider:
- Compatibility with a newborn infant carrier
- Type of stroller: Tandem (one behind the other) or side-by-side stroller; color; look
- Your child’s size requirements
- More specific needs and preferences for you and your children. (e.g., storage, food tray, cup holder, sunshade, etc.)
- Price point
I have put together a list of some of the best double strollers, so you don’t have to! My top picks are based on price, safety features, usability, and comfortability. There is a list of everyday strollers, baby jogger strollers, and strollers with a standing platform – make sure to look through all the features so you can find the right stroller for you!

Everyday Strollers
- Dimensions: 28.5 x 28.5 x 39.5 inches
- Product Weight: 24 pounds
- Weight Limit: 50 pounds per seat
- Maximum Height: up to 38 inches
- Why We Love It: The Evenflo Aero 2 has individually reclining stroller seats with 5-point safety harnesses and a large canopy with flip-out visors and UPF 50+ sun protection per seat. It has a compact, self-standing fold and is a little more friendly on your wallet. This stroller boasts a significant amount of storage: an oversized undercarriage, seatback storage pocket, 2 mesh in-seat pockets, and a bonus storage basket that snaps onto the front of either seat when riding with only one child (the bonus storage basket stores under the seat when not in use). The undercarriage is open in the front, so you may not want to store anything in the undercarriage basket that may easily slip out.
- Dimensions: 43 x 20.5 x 40.25 inches
- Product Weight: 31 pounds when in tandem style
- Weight Limit: 45 pounds per seat
- Maximum Height: not included in specs
- Why We Love It: Sometimes, you may need a stroller for just one kid and sometimes for two - this is your answer! One of the best strollers to meet this need is this tandem stroller, meaning that your kids would sit one behind the other. It can transform from a single stroller to a double stroller by attaching the second seat. What a great idea if you have one child now, but plan to have a second child in the future! Due to the tandem style, the Tandem+ is much more narrow than a double stroller so it’s easier to get through tight spaces. If you’re looking to stroll off the beaten path however, this stroller and its rubber tires might not be the best option for you. But, It folds easily and can even be broken into two pieces for easier storage, such as in a small trunk or when traveling by plane. I always had an extra smaller umbrella stroller to travel with in the airports, and this is the closest thing to that when traveling with multiple kids. So, regardless of it’s off-roading capabilities, this option remains to be a great choice for a travel stroller for a reasonable price! The Tandem+ has reclining seats (front seat: 125 degrees; rear seat: 165 degrees), an expandable canopy with UPF 50+, a belly bar, child snack cup set, and a parent cup holder.
(By the way – any of these double strollers make a GREAT gift for moms with toddlers, or a gift for a second time mom!)
- Dimensions: 45 x 27 x 39 inches
- Product Weight: 35 pounds
- Weight Limit: 55 pounds
- Maximum Height: up to 39 inches
- Why We Love It: This is not your regular stroller. This fun stroller wagon has an adjustable handlebar that can be flipped so you can use it as a stroller (push the stroller) or a wagon (pull the stroller). Plus, the great thing about this option is that the front can be tipped so your child can get into the stroller on their own. Increased independence makes a big difference when you’re headed to the beach, fireworks, or whatever fun event that requires extra baggage along with your kiddos. The Evenflo Pivot Xplore can be used with either 1 or 2 kids up to 5 years of age. Another really cool feature is that it can be adapted to use with other parts of your travel system like an infant car seat or a toddler seat (accessories sold separately). There are two retractable canopies with UPF 50+, a tray table for two, all-terrain wheels, and an oversized access basket that can be rotated into the wagon if you’re only seating one child.
Mom Pro Tip #2: For those hot summer days, check out this stroller fan you can add to any travel system to keep your kids entertained and cool.
Baby Jogger Strollers
If you’re looking to jog or run more, this kind of stroller may be a good choice for you. Baby joggers typically have a three-wheel design, and use bicycle style tires filled with air. This style makes the stroller easier to steer and more comfortable to push during your jog.
In addition, baby joggers often have a shock-absorbing system to make the ride less bumpy for your child(ren) and are often taller. Just like our everyday strollers, baby joggers have various features and add-ons, but they can get expensive, are usually heavy, and don’t always have a compact fold. Let’s dive in and see what the best option is for you!
- Dimensions: 41.1 x 40 x 31.5 inches

- Why We Love It: If you live somewhere very sunny, this stroller might be a great option for you! It has an extra-large sun canopy with UPF 50+ for ultimate sun protection and a magnetic peek-a-boo window for each seat. They boast large air-filled tires with a built-in suspension system for an easy ride on smooth or rough terrain and a 360 degree swiveling front wheel that will lock to make your jog easier. Storage will not be an issue as there are 10 storage pockets, an extra-large cargo basket underneath, and a cell phone pocket on the adjustable handlebar. The seats have a 5-point harness, reclining, and are ultra-padded for your child’s comfort. This stroller is compatible with most major brand car seats, as long as you have the BOB infant carseat adapter.

The Baby Trend Navigator can be adapted for use with two infant car seats or two toddler seats so it can be used for a long time! One additional feature I haven’t seen in other strollers: built in MP3 speakers so you and your kids can enjoy music throughout your day.
Mom Pro Tip #3: Don’t be sad when the old sibling has aged out of the double stroller! Don’t underestimate the utility of that second seat – It’s great for piling up diaper bags, target bags, whatever you need to keep those hands free!
Strollers with a Standing Platform
Strollers with standing platforms are a great option if you need to accommodate your children’s different needs. For example, if you have one younger child and one older or two bigger kids who are outgrowing a stroller, but still need some rest time, the strollers with a standing platforms are our favorite strollers to meet that need.
If your kids are vastly different heights and one is not quite fitting as comfortably under the sunshade, these are also great options to ensure everyone is comfortable and happy. The standing area can often be adapted to hold an infant car seat, or can be used as a sitting or standing area for your older child. Your kid will have fun standing in their new “big kid stroller”!
- Dimensions:37 x 21.5 x 41.5 inches
- Product Weight: 23.5 pounds
- Weight Limit: 45 pounds per seat
- Maximum Height: not included in specs
- Why We Love It: This stroller has several different configurations for use. A universal car seat adapter is included and is suitable with most car seat brands for use with newborns and infants. There is a full rear seat for use with 6+ month olds and can be removed when it’s not needed; if the rear seat is removed, the space can be used as a bench seat or standing platform for children 2.5+ years of age. The Joovy Caboose Too Ultralight Stand-on Tandem Stroller has sealed bearing wheels (like those on skates and skateboards) for a smooth ride and increased maneuverability, plus dual front wheels and single rear wheels which supports stability and navigation. The seat has a 5-point harness and reclines. Plus, this stroller has a lightweight design, folds quickly, and lies flat for easy storage. Keep in mind the rear extension provides some sun protection, but not full coverage, and the back rider shares foot space with the storage basket, which may make your child’s ride less comfortable or limits how much space you can use.
- Dimensions: 49 x 21.5 x 43 inches
- Product Weight: 27 pounds
- Weight Limit: 50 pounds per seat
- Maximum Height: up to 40 inches in the front and back seat
- Why We Love It: Our last recommendation is the Baby Trend Sit N Stand Ultra, which has lots of options to meet your needs whether you have little kids or big kids! This stroller can be adapted to be used with two infant car seats, one infant car seat & one sitting or standing child, or one child sitting & one child standing. It has swiveling front wheels that support improved maneuverability, multiple cup holders, a 5-point harness and an adjustable canopy. This stroller does not fold compactly and while there is much storage space in the undercarriage, you must access the storage bin between the front and rear seats, which can be difficult when you’re on the move.
The important thing about these stroller options is that your little ones will be safe and comfortable. We hope this comprehensive list of double stroller options has been helpful for you!
